Warrant against Zardari

B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD: Asif Ali Zardari, husband of the former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has been declared a proclaimed offender by a court here for non-appearance in a case of amassment of wealth beyond the known sources. The husband and wife are away from Pakistan and a few days ago on the request from the Pakistan Government the Interpol issued Red Corner notices to the couple in connection with several cases. Ms. Bhutto left Pakistan in 1999 during the regime of Nawaz Sharif and has not returned fearing arrest. An Accountability Court judge in Rawalpindi, Khalid Mahmood, on Wednesday declared Asif Ali Zardari a proclaimed offender and issued a perpetual arrest warrant for him in an ill-gotten assets case.
