Shimla: Truck operators of Darlaghat in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh on Thursday called off their 17-day old strike after the Ambuja management agreed to pay higher transportation rates. The truck operators resumed transportation of cement, clinker and raw material from early on Thursday and the situation was fast returning to normal in the area, Solan Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Kumar told UNI over phone. Joint Action Committee of Truck Operators Union Spokesman Ram Krishan said that the strike was called off after the management agreed to pay Rs 44.20 per quintal per km for cement and Rs 350 per tonne for transporting clinker retrospectively from July last year. He said the rates were at par with what the ACC Cement plant management at Barmana was paying, adding that the company had also agreed to pay the arrears. The truck operators were on a strike since January 29, demanding an increase in the transportation rates of cement and clinker from the cement plant to other parts of the country. The indefinite strike had caused estimated losses of hundred thousand crore to the company and the State exchequer. Mr Krishan said the company management also agreed to pay higher transportation rates to the truck operators if the Shukla Committee recommended higher rates retrospectively from July last year. The Shukla Committee was set up on September 29 last year on the direction of the HP High Court after the Ambuja management approached the court following a strike by the truck operators. UNI
