CHANDIGARH : Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Wednesday announced that the "Kanya Gurukul" in Sonepat district would be made a women's university and named after Bhagat Phool Singh. He announced this while speaking at the annual function of the Kanya Gurukul at Khanpur Kalan. He asked the Gurukul authorities to pass a formal resolution in its general body meeting seeking upgradation of Gurukul to the level of a university. Stating that earlier this area was very backward in the field of education, Mr.Hooda said that Bhagat Phool Singh and the Arya Samaj had played a significant role in promoting education in the region. Bhagat Phool Singh gave special thrust on the promotion of girl education, he added. He urged the people to realise the dreams of Bhagat Phool Singh by giving special priority to education. He said that qualitative education would be imparted in the schools and colleges and such courses would be introduced in educational institutions which would be helpful in providing jobs to the youth. Education Minister Phool Chand Mullana and local MLA Dharmpal Singh Malik, also spoke on the occasion. Health Minister Kartar Devi and Transport Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala were also present.
