CHANDIGARH: The Crime branch of the Chandigarh police formally claimed on Thursday evening that the triple murder of retired Group Captain T. P. Singh, his wife Shibani and sister Ajit Kaur in their house in Sector 34 here on February 6 night had been worked out with the arrest of the Singhs' elder son, Pawandeep, at Lhotovi village in Dimapur (Nagaland). Pawandeep, who was brought to Chandigarh on Thursday, was produced before a court and remanded to police custody till February 24. The incident had sent shock waves in the City. Addressing a press conference here, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, K.I.P.Singh, said that police parties had been sent to nab Pawandeep's two alleged accomplices identified as A.K.Tyagi and Ravi Kant Tyagi. He said that the needle of suspicion had fallen on the elder son as he did not turn up for his parents' and aunt's cremation. A Special Investigation Team had been constituted to work out the case. Pawandeep's mobile phone records had helped in tracking his whereabouts on February 6 and 7. Mr. Singh said that Pawandeep had admitted that he had reportedly killed his parents and aunt along with his two accomplices, one of whom, A.K.Tyagi, was his room-mate in Gurgaon. According to preliminary investigation, Pawandeep had reportedly admitted that he had murdered his family as his parents were indifferent to him. He had been a "problem child' and his parents always scolded him. He was also emotionally disturbed and he had lost his job with a call centre in Gurgaon. He needed money desperately as he wanted to marry his girl-friend. They had allegedly hatched a plan with his accomplices to rob his father on the February 6 when he usually brought money home to be distributed as salary to the workers the next day. The DSP informed that the suspects had come to Chandigarh on the night of February 6 and rung the door-bell. When the door was not opened, Pawandeep knocked on the window of his house. His father opened the door and immediately the three accused attacked him. A struggle ensued but finally he was shot with a 9 mm pistol. He said that it was not yet clear as to who had actually fired the fatal shot. In the meantime, Pawandeep's mother came near the dining table and she also grappled with the assailants. While his two friends reportedly caught hold of his mother, Pawandeep went to the kitchen and brought out a knife with which she was stabbed. The aunt, who had come from New Delhi, on a visit, was reportedly hit by a flower vase. Mr.Singh said that Pawandeep could not lay his hands on the salary money. He took out whatever money he could along with two mobile sets. They left Chandigarh in Captain Singh's Maruti Zen car for Gurgaon. They parted ways in Gurgaon after abandoning the car there. Pawandeep left for Nagaland.
