`Farmers pension a good beginning'
Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Finance Minister Vakkom Purushothaman on Thursday criticised the Opposition for belittling the newly launched pension scheme for small farmers in the State.
Replying to the discussion on supplementary demands for grants in the Budget, he said the annual pension of Rs.1,000 for aged small farmers, mentioned in his Budget speech, should not be seen as a meaningless gesture. "I admit that the amount is small. But, this is an initiative no previous Government had thought of. It is a beginning. The Governments of the coming days will be forced to increase the amount," he said.
