BANGALORE: Snehal Khaire, the fastest women of the meet, added yet another gold to her tally of two from the opening day, with a leap of 4.94 metres in the long jump event on the second day of the three-day all India civil services athletics meet at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Thursday. The Mumbai duo of Jitendra Singh and Urmila More added the 400 metres to their kitty. While Jitendra stopped the clock at 50.7 seconds Urmila took 1:07.4 seconds over the same distance. Bangalore boy Parmeshwar bagged the long jump gold with an effort of 6.75 metres. The results (winners only): Men: 400m: Jitendra Singh (Mumbai) 50.7s; 10,000m: Jogender Singh (CCSSCB, Delhi) 34:13.1s; 110m hurdles: Jithendra Singh (WB) 18.3s; long jump: Parmeshwar (Bangalore) 6.75m; pole vault: K. T. Vinay's all-round performance (146 n.o. and five for 54) guided Corporation Bank to an eight-wicket victory over ISAC Cricketers in a KSCA Group II, second division league match here recently. MEG defeats SAI
After a blank first-half, Madras Engineering Group (MEG) struck twice in the second half to defeat Sports Authority of India (SAI) 2-0 in a George Hoover Cup super division league match at the Football Stadium here on Thursday. Lokeshwar Singh scored in the 60th minute and later Santosh bulged the net in the 85th minute to help MEG draw level with current league topper HAL. Now both MEG and HAL have 17 points each from their respective seven matches while SAI stayed at 11 from seven outings. Earlier in an `A' division league match, BEML defeated BWSSB 3-1. Gopinath and Vinod scored in the 21st and 29th minutes to put BEML ahead though BWSSB pulled one back through the efforts of Somesh in the 32nd minute. However, BEML surged ahead with Manoj Kumar scoring in the 78th minute to put the match beyond BWSSB's grasp.
KSP in semifinals
Karnataka State Police (KSP) crafted a 2-1 victory over Army XI to enter the semifinal phase of the Field Marshall Cariappa Memorial hockey tournament here on Thursday. Army XI scored first with Rajeesh Lakra (9th) sounding the boards off a penalty corner. Laxman Rao scored for KSP two minutes later and Manjunath Jadhav scored the match winner in the 59th minute. Army XI also entered the semifinal league of the tournament. The last of the pool matches will be played on Friday between Indian Telephone Industries and Saturday's semifinal fixtures will be between Army XI and Canara Bank (2.15 p.m.) and Karnataka State Police (3.45p.m.)
DTDC advances
Sandeep Lele (81) and Girish Rao (71) helped Desk To Desk Couriers (DTDC) SC defeat Friends Union Cricket Club (FUCC) by four wickets in a Y.S. Ramaswami Memorial tournament match here recently. FUCC scored 234 with Kunal Kapoor chipping in a 90. DTDC eased past the target in 46.4 overs to qualify for the semifinals. The scores: FUCC 234 in 46.3 overs (Kunal Kapoor 90, Vinay 43, Sandeep Murthy 42) lost to DTDC SC 236 for six in 46.4 overs (Sandeep Lele 81, Girish Rao 71).
Sports meet
The National senior championship for the disabled will be held here from February 19 to 23 while the National sub-junior championship for the disabled will be held at Mysore from February 24 to 26. The Paralympic Committee of India will conduct the tournament.
