NEW DELHI: By crossing the 20-lakh subscribers mark, India's leading mobile company Airtel has reached yet another milestone in the Delhi telecom circle that covers the entire National Capital Region. Interestingly, Delhi has also become the first metro to achieve this landmark. Stating that their subscriber base had grown more rapidly in the past few months, Airtel Mobile Services executive director Sanjay Nandrajog said: "For better coverage and improved quality of service, we will be commissioning at least 800 more cell sites to add to the total of 1,600 similar sites in Delhi and NCR region that we have as of today." Significantly, Airtel, which started its operations in Delhi in 1995, has added 10-lakh subscribers in the last two years and eight months. Airtel Delhi Circle CEO K. Srinivas said the company plans to increase the number of its relationship centres from 70 to 100 in the new few months besides announcing more offers and promotional schemes. Airtel also has about 25,000 retail outlets. Airtel's investment in the past 12 months has been over Rs. 300 crores, while it is awaiting some relaxation from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on the Access Deficit Charge (ADC) issue after which it might also announce the tariff plans alike BSNL's OneIndia offering outgoing calls at Rs.1 across India.
