KOCHI: Quarries and crusher units in the State are in a crisis because of the action taken against explosives dealers, following the discovery of gelignite sticks from the cloakroom of the Kozhikode bus stand, according to the All Kerala Explosives Dealers' Association. Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Association secretary N.A. Thomas alleged that Government agencies concerned had taken away records from dealers, in the wake of the incident. "As a result, we are unable to buy explosives for use in quarries. The law enforcers have begun to look at us as terrorists. We have stopped selling explosives since February 13. Quarries and crusher units in the State have stopped functioning." The net result is that construction activity has come to a standstill in many parts of the State. The Government should take steps to return all the documents that were seized from explosives dealers, he said. All Kerala Crusher Owners' Association president M.A. Mathai said thousands of workers in the sector have been left jobless in the wake of unavailability of explosives. The Government should take steps to end the strike by explosives dealers, he said.
