Sonia to address rally on March 4

Preparations on for meeting

KOCHI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi will address a rally of Congress workers in Kochi on March 4. The rally is being organised as part of the State Congress Sampoorna Sammelanam commencing on March 3.

A torch-bearing rally led by KPCC vice-president Thalekkunnil Basheer, will mark the commencement of the event. It would start from Thiruvananthapuram on February 28, said KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala here on Thursday. Finance Minister Vakkom Purushothaman will inaugurate the programme.

The flag for the meet will be brought from Kasaragod. The flag-carrying rally will be led by Mullapally Ramachandran, M.K. Raghavan and other leaders. The former Minister K. Sankaranarayanan will inaugurate the programme. A portrait of Rajiv Gandhi to be exhibited at the venue of the meet will be brought in a rally from Ottapalam. UDF convener P.P. Thankachan will inaugurate the rally there.

The flagpole will be brought in a rally from Idukki. Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Minister for Water Resources, will inaugurate the rally. G. Karthikeyan, former Minister, will inaugurate a rally carrying Indira Gandhi's portrait in Pathanamthitta. All these rallies will reach Kochi on March 2.

KPCC executive committee meeting will be held on March 3. There will be a meeting known as `Kudumba sangamam' to honour old leaders of the party.

A cultural meeting will be organised on March 5 in the morning.

A seminar on development issues will commence in the afternoon. Committees have been formed to prepare the draft for the discussions at the seminar. About 12,000 delegates of the Congress belonging to units at the grassroots level will participate in the Sampoorna Sammelanam on March 7. A khadi exhibition will also be organised to coincide with the meet.
