HYDERABAD: Telugu film actress Aarti Agarwal slipped into coma after sustaining a severe head injury reportedly after she fell off the staircase in her house in Banjara Hills on Wednesday night. She was operated upon at Apollo hospital on Thursday afternoon and a blood clot in the brain removed, but doctors said her condition was critical. However, mystery shrouds the incident with different versions doing the rounds. The nature of injuries she sustained-- a clot in the brain, a broken collarbone, ribs and tibia-- raised doubts. Aarti had attempted suicide last March by consuming liquid toilet cleaner. Her father Shashank Agarwal told presspersons that the entire family was going out for dinner on Wednesday when she slipped and fell from the staircase. "We gave her a pain killer and stayed back home. She woke up in the morning and complained of severe headache and dizziness. The family doctor saw her and advised us to shift her to hospital." Aarti was wheeled into Apollo hospital in an unconscious condition around 11 a.m. and a CT scan revealed that she had sustained a serious internal head injury. "We operated upon her and removed a blood clot. The injury is severe and could be life threatening too. At this juncture, we cannot say anything," the neurosurgeon who conducted the operation Alok Ranjan said. Aarti has been put on ventilator and "we can take a decision on the course of action only on Friday," the doctor said.
