Thiruvananthapuram: The Emigration officials at the International Airport on Thursday detained three persons on the charge of attempting to travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with fake visas stamped on their passports. The Valiathura police later arrested them on the charge of violating the Passport Act. The police identified the accused as Satheeshan, 32, Mohanan 44, Sidharthan, 42, all hailing from Thrissur. The police said the accused had paid nearly Rs.1 lakh each to Rajesh, 29, of Thuckalay, for obtaining the visas. The Emigration officials also detained Rajesh and handed him over to the local police. They were produced before the court and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody.
Lorry cleaner dead
The cleaner of a tipper lorry met with a fatal accident when he jumped out of the moving vehicle when its brakes failed. The incident occurred on a steep slope near Kattiyad in the Attingal police station limits on Thursday evening. The police identified the deceased as Benny, 40, a native of Moovattupuzha. He had hurled himself out of the lorry in panic when the brakes failed. His head slammed against a wall before he came crashing down by the side of the road. Benny was rushed to Medical College Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
