Thunchan fete begins today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The annual `Thunchan Utsavam-2006,' organised by the Ayranimuttom Thunchan Memorial Trust, will be held at Thunchan Nagar here from February 17 to 28.

A musical event, `Ayiram Padaswarangal,' will be held as the part of festival on Saturday to pay tributes to lyricist Vayalar Rama Varma, the trust office-bearers told mediapersons here on Thursday.

A Mohiniyattom festival, to be inaugurated by playwright Kavalam Narayana Panickar on February 23; a students' meet and a musical programme, `Sandhya mayangum neram,' performed by up-and-coming playback singers on the closing day, are among the highlights.

The festival will be inaugurated by Kerala University Vice-Chancellor M.K. Ramchandran Nair, while former Chief Secretary C.P. Nair will chair the function.
