NEW DELHI: Continuing with its drive against major property tax defaulters, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Thursday seized bank accounts of three Delhi University colleges, two hospitals and a hotel that collectively owe it taxes and arrears worth nearly Rs 5 crores. The three colleges are -- Daulat Ram College (dues Rs.2.59 crores), Satyawati College (Rs.90.86 lakhs) and Gargi College (Rs.26.18 lakhs). The civic body has already recovered Rs.20 lakhs from Daulat Ram College. Bank accounts have also been seized of Sri Ram Institute of Industrial Research that has to pay the civic body property tax worth Rs.8.68 lakhs, while similar action has also been initiated against two hospitals -- Muni Mayaram Jain Hospital (dues Rs.25.63 lakhs) and Sarvodaya Hospital (Rs.13.22 lakhs). Similarly, the bank account of City Park Hotel (dues Rs.20.87 lakhs) has also been seized. Meanwhile, Kamla Nehru College whose accounts were seized on Wednesday has paid Rs.10 lakhs against the total outstanding dues worth Rs.22 lakhs. Earlier, the civic body had also seized bank accounts of Desh Bandhu College, Dayal Singh College, St.Stephen's College, Kirori Mal College, Hindu College, Sri Ram College of Commerce and Hansraj College to recover their dues.
