Special Correspondent

New aircraft to be deployed on two routes

NEW DELHI: Air Deccan, India's first private low-cost carrier, has taken delivery of a brand new 180-seater Airbus A-320, which will be based in Kolkata. The acquisition of this aircraft has taken Air Deccan's fleet size to 28, comprising ten Airbus and 18 ATRs.

The new aircraft will be deployed on two new routes being launched by Air Deccan on March 10 — Kolkata-Nagpur-Kolkata and Kolkata-Port Blair-Kolkata — and for an additional flight launched from Delhi to Kolkata, also starting the same day. Currently Nagpur is connected to Kolkata only by public sector Indian twice a week and Air Deccan will be the only airline connecting both cities by regular daily flights, a spokesperson of the airline said.

Air Deccan at present has 32 daily flights flying in and out of Kolkata. The induction of the new airbus will take the number of flights in and out of Kolkata to 38 per day from March 10 onwards.

These flights will begin operations from March 10 and bookings for travel till May 31 can be made now. The tickets can be purchased through its website www.airdeccan.net, Air Deccan airport counters, travel agents across India, Reliance web stores across 104 cities in India, and Club HP petrol pumps in six states.
