VISAKHAPATNAM: Workers of three jute mills in Vizianagaram district have threatened to go on strike if their demand for better wage revision is not met by the management. The main demand is fixing the wages of 10,000 apprentices who will become badli workers. The Indian Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU) has been spearheading the agitation in Aruna, East Coast and Bobbili jute mills. In spite of nine rounds of discussions held with the management and Labour Department officials, stalemate persists. Following a massive rally at Vizianagaram on Thursday, the Vizianagaram District Collector called for a final round of discussions involving the union, management and the Deputy Commissioner of Labour on Friday evening. If the talks fail, strike will begin from Saturday, according to P. Prasad, State vice-president of IFTU.
