Kolkata: T wo bombs exploded near West Bengal Chief Minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's house on Palm Avenue here on Friday morning. The blasts occurred during a clash between two groups of people. City Police Commissioner Prasun Mukherjee said it was neither a terrorist attack nor an incident concerning the Chief Minister's security. Security was tightened after the incident. There has been some talk in the past few weeks of Mr. Bhattacharjee being advised to shift to another part of south Kolkata following intelligence reports that he is on the hit list of certain extremist and fundamentalist groups. The Chief Minister, however, is reportedly not keen on shifting from his modest ground floor flat on Palm Avenue. Anil Biswas, State secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), condemned the incident and blamed the Congress for it. He alleged that the blast was an outcome of rivalry within that party and went to show that the Congress "provided shelter to miscreants." Police said three persons, while fleeing after a clash with the supporters of a local Congress leader on Bondel Road in the Ballygunge area, hurled the bombs. Security men outside the Chief Minister's house apprehended them and seized nine bombs.
