Government urged to file review plea to get order stayed

Special Correspondent

High Court had passed orders against regularisation of unauthorised cultivation of lands

SHIMOGA: The Shantaveri Gopala Gowda Samajawadi Adhyayana Kendra Trust has urged the Government to file a review petition to get the order passed by the High Court against regularisation of the unauthorised cultivation of gomala, gram thana and hullu bani lands stayed, to protect the interest of poor farmers.

In a memorandum submitted to Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, during his recent visit here, representatives of the trust led by its convenor Kallur Megharaj said the High Court order of September 22, 2005 will deny poor farmers the opportunity to regularise the lands they have been cultivating since long in their areas. The memorandum said that nearly 21.72 lakh farmers engaged in cultivation of bagair hukum lands in 51.93 lakh acres of gomala and other types of the government land, who had submitted applications seeking regularisation of land in which unauthorised cultivation has taken place, will be affected if the High Court order is implemented.

The trust members urged Mr. Yediyurappa to prevail upon the Government to withdraw the circular issued by the Secretary of the Revenue Department asking the Deputy Commissioners not to allow cultivation on gomala and other types of the government land.

They also requested him to direct the Government to file a review petition against the High Court order and ensure that the farmers engaged in the unauthorised cultivation on such lands are not evicted.
