We are facing staff shortage: VC

Staff Correspondent

Karnataka Veterinary, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Sciences University has only 32 teachers against a prescribed strength of 145

Bidar: Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka Veterinary, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Sciences University R.N. Srinivasa Gowda has said that the university is facing a severe staff shortage.

"We are managing with only 32 teachers although their strength has to be 145," he said.

Mr. Srinivasa Gowda told presspersons at the valedictory function of the university level sports meet here on Thursday that little could be achieved until this problem was solved.

"If we do not have the required number of teachers, we cannot possibly do justice to our students. This might have an adverse effect on the system of veterinary education in the State," he said. Mr. Srinivasa Gowda urged the Government to lift the ban on recruitment in its departments.

Funds

He said the university did not face a dearth of funds. "We had sought from the Government Rs. 15 crores and it has released Rs. 11 crores. We are hopeful that the balance will be released soon," he said.

The university will shortly launch the Bio-Village project on the Deoni breeding farm near Halliked (B) village in Bidar district. The cost of the project is Rs. 20 lakhs. Under the project, scientists will conduct research on quality cattle breeds. The village will have residential training facilities for farmers. It will also have an organic farming and organic animal husbandry training unit. Farmers will be trained in vermi-compost production and use.

The university will establish disease testing and vaccinating centres in eight districts. They will come up at a cost of Rs. 10 lakhs. The university will adopt four villages in its vicinity and train farmers in advanced animal husbandry techniques.

"We will increase the number of villages to be adopted, said Mr. Srinivasa Gowda.

Registrar Suresh Honnappagol and Dean K.S. Pratap Kumar were present.
