Vinod to take on Yogesh in final

KOLKATA : Top seeded Vinod Sridhar of Tamil Nadu reached the men's singles final beating fourth seed Gursharan Singh of Punjab in the semifinals of the Central Excise Open grasscourt tennis here on Friday.

Sridhar took 72 minutes for his 7-5, 6-3 win over Singh, who used both his hands in turns while serving and returning. The top seed will meet unseeded Yogesh Phogat of Haryana, who received a walk-over. Phogat was scheduled to play the semifinals against local challenger Vinod Kumar Sewa, who remained absent.

In the women's section, unseeded local girls Ragini Vimal and Shivika Burman won the doubles title beating third seeded pair of Naina Karsolia (Uttar Pradesh) and Harpreet Gill (Madhya Pradesh) 6-1, 6-0 in the final.

The results:

Men's singles (semifinals): Vinod Sridhar (TN) bt Gursharan Singh (Pun) 7-5, 6-3; Yogesh Phogat (Har) w/o Vinod Kumar Sewa (Ben).

Women's doubles (final): Ragini Vimal & Shivika Burman (Ben) bt Naina Karsolia (UP) & Harpreet Gill (MP) 6-1, 6-0. — Sports Reporter
