Association demands White Paper on ADB loan

Special Correspondent

Corporation urged to come clean on the issue

  • MCC had refuted claims that it owes Rs. 310 crores to ADB
  • Commissioner criticised for issuing contradictory statements

MYSORE: The Association of Concerned and Informed Citizens of Mysore (ACICM) has demanded a White Paper on repayment of the outstanding Asian Development Bank loan availed by the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) and has urged the corporation to come clean on the issue. This followed Commissioner Ibrahim's recent refutation of claims made by the association that the corporation owed Rs. 310 crores to the ADB. Mr. Ibrahim had dismissed the claims and accused the association of "misleading" the public. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, association members including Major General (retd) Sudhir Vombatkere, Bhamy V. Shenoy, M. Lakshman, Madhuri Tatacharya, M.B. Srinivas and others reminded Mr. Ibrahim of his statements to the media some time ago wherein he had said that the corporation was finding it difficult to repay the loan availed from the ADB and had defaulted two instalments since December 2002 and was heading for a debt.

The association said the Commissioner is issuing contradictory statements by stating now that the corporation is financially sound.

Mr. Vombatkere and Mr. Lakshman said it is vital for citizens of Mysore to demand full information on the current position of the ADB loan.
