NEW DELHI: The India Carpet Expo, the country's only fair for hand-made carpets and floor-coverings jointly organised by the Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC) and the All India Carpet Trade Fair Committee (AICTFC), is ready to take off at Pragati Maidan here on Saturday. According to Carpet Export Promotion Council Chairman V.R. Sharma, it will be the largest expo ever held in India. The organisers have been making huge efforts to bring this fair to international standards as a result of which the expos held in February last year and later in Varanasi were highly successful ventures. All types of hand-made floor-coverings manufactured in India will be on display during the four-day fair. These will include attractive, high quality, oriental and contemporary hand-knitted and hand-tufted carpets, woollen dhurries, schumaks and other flat weaves made of wool, silk and staple fibre from Bhadohi-Mirzapur, Jaipur, Agra, Panipat and Kashmir as well as from other regions of India. India is the leading supplier of carpets to the vast American market and has the distinction of being the second largest exporter of carpets worldwide. As a result of the efforts made by the organisers the highest ever participation of foreign buyers and Indian exhibitors is expected at the Carpet Expo 2006. A total of 150 exporters of carpets will be showcasing their products.
