NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday threatened to launch a nationwide agitation on the Sachar Committee that was asked to submit a report on the educational, social and economic status of Muslims. BJP deputy leader in the Lok Sabha V.K. Malhotra said even though the party was especially concerned about the "survey" of Muslims in the armed forces, on the issue of collecting data from universities and government departments, the BJP "would not cooperate with the Sachar Committee." The party had conveyed to the Chief Ministers in the BJP-ruled States "not to provide any data" to the Committee, he said. However, the party appeared to be satisfied with the Prime Minister's statement on the Iran vote. "We do not want to quarrel with the Prime Minister on the statement given by him on the Iran nuclear issue," Mr. Malhotra said.
