Commodity prices

The following were the prices (per kg) of essential commodities in the local wholesale market on Friday, according to Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry:

Groundnut oil- 47.50, palmolein oil-39.25, sunflower oil-46, tamarind (flower variety)-24 to 28, tamarind (karipuli variety)-40 to 48, chillies-25 to 27, rice (2716)-13, rice (super fine)-15, rice (sona masoori)-16 to 17, rice (samba masoori)-15 to 16, black gram-36 and red gram-21 to 23.

Advocates protest

Members of Bezwada Bar Association on Friday stayed off the courts to register their protest against the `insult' of Y. Balakrishna, an advocate from Machilipatnam by the Krishna district Joint Collector and additional district magistrate S. Suresh Kumar.

The decision to boycott courts was taken at an emergency meeting of the general body called to discuss the issue, on Thursday. The association president P. Sivashankar Rao on Friday attended the executive committee meet of the machilipatnam unit and expressed solidarity with Mr. Balakrishna.

Cardiac centre's offer

Dr. P. Ramesh Babu of City Cardiac Research Centre has agreed to extend 50 per cent concession on consultation fee and medical tests for retired Krishna district panchayat raj ministerial employees, class IV employees and drivers who visit his hospital for treatment.
