VISAKHAPATNAM: Indian Social Action Forum here on Friday organised its regional convention on `Globalisation and displacement'. CPI-M district secretary Ch. Narsinga Rao said the interests of the poor were ignored by the Government taking up irrigation projects like Polavaram, industrial ventures like Gangavaram port, setting up of a special economic zone or bauxite mining.
`A chasm'
CPI city secretary Ch. Raghavendra Rao felt globalisation was creating a chasm between the rich and the poor. INSAF State committee member Makireddi Ramana, who presided, said the organisation was sharing information on resistance to globalisation and had already held regional conventions in Telangana and Rayalaseema. Samata Director K. Bhanumathi, its activist Srinivas, Eswaramma (CARE, Sullurupeta) and Sanjiva Rao (Velugu, Srikakulam) and others spoke.
