Bangalore: The sixth edition of `Bangalore Bio 2006' gets under way from June 7 to 9 at the Palace Grounds here with the spotlight on clinical trials and research process outsourcing. At the curtain raiser for the event, Biotechnology Secretary M.K. Shankaralinge Gowda said the flagship biotech event, promoted by the State Government and organised by the Vision Group on Biotechnology, will spur biotechnology activities in the State. The Government is keen on further investments in stem cell research and hoped that there will be investments in this area. The Government is finalising contractors for setting up the Biotech Park. Chairperson of the Vision Group and Chairperson and Managing Director of Biocon Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw said the global challenge is to provide affordable drug development. In this background the clinical development opportunities here are gaining credence. Patent/services infrastructure is needed to support the industry. About the event, she said the European Union is a key partner. There will be significant international participation, mainly from the Netherlands. Over 60 speakers, 400 conference delegates and 125 exhibitors from over 15 countries will participate.
