Belgaum: Commissioner for Disabilities Krishna Murthy has called upon officials concerned to ensure expeditious implementation of welfare programmes for people with disabilities. He was reviewing the progress of implementation of welfare programmes with officials of the departments of Women and Child Development, Education, Backward Classes & Minorities, Health, Social Welfare Department and police here on Thursday. Mr. Murthy warned officials against being lethargic while implementing welfare programmes. He called for the involvement of local leaders, social workers, voluntary organisations, non-governmental organisations and women members of self-help groups in creating awareness about the welfare programmes taken up for the benefit of persons with disabilities. He said that several people were not aware that the Government has provided three per cent reservation for people with disabilities in various employment schemes and programmes. Deputy Commissioner Shalini Rajneesh pointed out at certain major grievances of the people with disabilities and advised officials against ignoring their woes. She asked them to be prompt and ensure expeditious implementation of all welfare programmes. Additional Superintendent of Police C. Mohan was present.
