Promoting keyhole surgeries

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: To celebrate their Founders Day, Miot Hospitals recently launched an awareness campaign on keyhole surgeries.

Also called minimally invasive surgery (MIS) or laparoscopic or endoscopic surgery (depending on the equipment used), the procedure involves but minimal pain, minimal scars, a short hospital stay and quick recovery.

The surgical procedure also involves minimum exposure, therefore chance of an infection setting in is almost nil, said P.V.A. Mohandas, managing director, Miot Hospitals.

He said the procedure also works out cheaper when compared to open surgery, as only one doctor is needed for the process, surgery time is brief and the patient can return home within 24 hours.

The awareness campaign about keyhole surgeries will include advertisements, workshops, medical symposia, public meetings and booklets.
