DEHRA DUN: A large number of Muslims staged demonstrations here in Doon city and Vikasnagar near here burning effigies of the Danish cartoonist who had drawn cartoons of Prophet Mohammad. The flags of Denmark and the US were burnt and leaders sought "the Indian Government's help in saving Islam from uncalled for attacks by certain elements of the West". Describing India as a peaceful nation, the community leaders led by Maulana Ashraf urged the people not to indulge in violence or issue violent threats and beware of certain political parties that might try to win over their sympathies by rousing religious passions.
