NEW DELHI: Suresh Kalmadi has resigned from the post of the President of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI). Being the president of the Asian Athletics Association (AAA), apart from heading the organising committee of the 2010 New Delhi Commonwealth Games, the Indian Olympic Association and the AFI, meant that he was under tremendous strain to do justice to various jobs. "I also have to look after various bid committees," Mr. Kalmadi said. Mr. Kalmadi, who chaired a meeting of the AAA Council here on Saturday, also said he wanted to devote more time for the Asian body. "In fact I had resigned three months ago but made an announcement today," Mr. Kalmadi said. The AFI is expected to choose Mr. Kalmadi's successor at its Executive Committee meeting here on February 26.
