  • The tax inspector was found to have six houses in Bangalore, apart from other property
  • The special tahsildar has two palatial houses and a site in prime localities in Bangalore

Bangalore: A team of Lokayukta officials raided the residences of T.C. Ramachandra, tax inspector of Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, and B. Boraiah, special tahsildar, Bangalore East taluk, on Saturday after cases had been filed against them under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, with the Lokayukta.

Speaking to presspersons, Lokayukta N. Venkatachala said Ramachandra joined the BMP as a peon in 1977. He had six houses at Nagarbhavi and Vijayanagar in Bangalore, two at Jodi Chikkanahalli in Nagamangala taluk of Mandya district, a coconut grove at Jodi Chikkanahalli, and a luxury car and two-wheeler.

During the course of the investigation, it was found that the accused had seven bank accounts and several National Savings Certificates, besides electronic gadgets. Mr. Venkatachala said movable and immovable property worth over Rs. 1.5 crore were seized during the raid.

The other accused, Boraiah, who joined as a clerk, had been under the Lokayukta's eye for over eight months. Mr. Venkatachala said that he had warned Boraiah when he visited the tahsildar's office eight months ago after receiving several complaints against him.

Investigation revealed that the accused had two palatial houses and a site in prime localities in the city, a car and a two-wheeler. Movable and immovable property worth Rs. 1.25 crore and Rs. 11,000 in cash were seized during the raid by the Lokayukta police. Both the accused are yet to be arrested.

"Corruption is rampant in the sub-registrar offices in all taluks. We can only start investigation against a particular officer after a complaint has been registered against the individual," he said.
