60 huts destroyed in fire

BANGALORE: About 60 huts were destroyed in a fire that broke out at a hutment in Rajagopalanagar police station limits on Saturday.

The police said the fire that started around 12.30 p.m. in a hut near Laggere Circle spread to the adjoining dwellings, destroying household articles and clothes.

Three fire tenders rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire. The Rajagopalanagar police have registered a case.

Three killed

Three persons, including a woman, were killed in separate road accidents in the city on Friday.

The police said Ashwath (23) was killed when an autorickshaw rammed his motorcycle on Mysore Road, off Jnana Bharati junction, around 5.30 p.m.

The Byatarayanapura traffic police have registered a case. In another incident, Fareeda Begum (27) was killed when a lorry hit her scooter on Whitefield Road around 6 p.m.

She was a resident of Siddhartha Layout, off Koodlu Gate, on Hosur Road. The K.R. Puram traffic police have registered a case.

Kupendra (24) was killed when the motorcycle on which he was riding pillion rammed a road median on Begur Road, off Hongasandra, around 11 p.m.

Stephen, who was riding the motorcycle, was injured. Kupendra, an electrician, was a resident of Hongasandra. The Madivala traffic police have registered a case.

Vehicles recovered

The Madivala subdivision police have arrested Shahid Aslam of Goripalya on charges of vehicle theft and recovered from him an autorickshaw, a motorcycle and a scooter, all worth Rs. 1.50 lakh.
