CHENNAI: The Bangalore-based software major Tally on Friday announced Indian language support for its popular financial accounting and inventory management suite. The accounting software, Tally version 8.1, will support entry and display of data in Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi, Gujarati, Oriya, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. It will also support transliteration in the 10 languages, through which a single account sheet can be viewed in different languages. Users can enter data through phonetic keyboards and the software will display, through transliteration, the equivalent words in different languages. P. Shankar, vice-president, Tally (India) Private Limited, said the software would facilitate inter-State operations of businesses. "Businesses have been able to use only English or bi-lingual accounting software so far. With its concurrent multilingual capability, Tally 8.1 will help inter-State businesses, in which local dealers can print vouchers in local languages." Tally has already introduced no-codes accounting and comprehensive VAT support for its software.
Two versions
In his message about the update, Bharat Goenka, managing director, said: "We have addressed a fundamental challenge of helping businessmen talk to each other and their customers in their preferred language." The update has been launched in two versions: Tally Silver 8.1 for single users; and Tally Gold 8.1 for multiple users. The former is priced at Rs. 9,000 while the latter comes at Rs. 22,500. The company hopes to sell 20,000 units of Tally 8.1 this year.
