Mulayam's threat an `eyewash,' says Mayawati

CM accused of politicisng Iran issue: demands dismissal of Uttar Pradesh Minister Qureshi

Lucknow: Charging Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav with politicising the Iran issue the Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawti on Sunday termed ruling Samajwadi Party's threat of a no confidence vote against the UPA Government as an ``eyewash.''

``Can Mr Yadav reply about his hobnobbing with former US president Bill Clinton and recent visit of Israeli ambassador to the State capital,'' she questioned at a press conference here.

The former UP CM said that on one hand the SP government was honouring a US leader and Isreali ambassador while on the other side it was trying to stage a ``mock'' fight for the Muslims in the state in the name of Iran.

``SP has no policy for the Muslims and it only aimed to garner votes by shedding crocodile tears,'' she claimed.

Demanding the immediate dismissal of the U.P.Minister Haji Yakoob Qureshi following his alleged announcement to reward with Rs 51 crores the assassin of the Danish cartoonist who lampooned the Prophet Mohammed, she said that the State Governor and Union Home Ministry should take swift cognizance of the remarks.

``The remark of the minister was unfortunate and hurts the sentiment of the people,'' she said.

When queried on the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) issue, Ms Mayawati declined any comment. UNI
