CAUGHT AND CAGED: The jackal that was rescued from a house at Taramani on Saturday
CHENNAI: The wildlife authorities in Chennai rescued a jackal that strayed into a house in Taramani on Saturday. Ashish Kumar Srivastava, Wildlife Warden, Chennai, said that on Saturday evening the Wildlife Headquarters Range office received an alert about the animal entering the house on Karunanidhi Street, Thanthai Periyar Nagar. Immediately, a team rushed to the house with a cage. The mammal was found in the corner of a room. The cage was kept at the entrance of the room and the male jackal was driven into it. The rescued jackal was under stress but in good condition, said Wildlife authorities. The animal would be kept at the Wildlife Headquarters Range Office at Velachery till Monday and then released into the wild. Velachery, Taramani and a portion of Pallikaranai were once part of the Guindy forests. Jackals used to move around these places, say naturalists.
