BCCI not keen on joint World Cup bid: PCB

BCCI not keen on joint World Cup bid: PCB

LAHORE : Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has said that the BCCI is not keen on holding the 2011 World Cup in the subcontinent because of little revenue earning prospects and the joint bid is in serious doubt now.

"We may not be able to submit our joint bid for the 2011 World Cup by the given deadline as neither cricket board has completed the modalities for finalising the bid," a PCB official said.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has asked interested countries to submit their final bids by February 28.

The main reason for India's disinterest is a new regulation under which the host will be paid a fixed amount of $10 million regardless of the total earnings from the tournament, the PCB official said."The ICC has taken a decision under which it will pay the host country a fixed sum of $10 million. If Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh jointly host the event they will each get $10 million. However, they are not entitled to a share in the earnings from the tournament which is distributed among the Test playing nations and associate members of the ICC," the official was quoted as saying by The News.

India has already objected to this new rule, but for the moment it stands. — UNI
