Power cut

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in parts of Ennore, Kathivakkam, Ernaveer, Thiruvottiyur and Kaladipet on Monday and in parts of Mandaveli, Sowcarpet, Puraswakkam, Nungambakkam, Muthialpet, Kondithope, M.K.B.Nagar, T.Nagar, Esplanade, Kadapperi, Tambaram, Selaiyur, Foreshore Estate, Santhome, Ambattur, Royapettah, Tondiarpet, Vepery, Koyambedu and Periamet areas for maintenance work on Tuesday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Blood donation

Over 100 people donated blood at a blood donation camp at Loyola College, organised by volunteers of SMILE on Wednesday.

They also participated in the hundial counting at Navasakthi Vinayagar temple in Mylapore on Thursday.

Eye screening

A free eye camp for senior citizens was organised by the Centre for the Welfare of the Aged and Udhi Eye Hospital at V.R. Pillai Street in Triplicane. About 90 people were screened for eye ailments, 19 were referred for cataract surgeries and nine were prescribed spectacles.

Communication seminar

A seminar on "Effective Communication Skills in School" was organised at the Vailankanni Matriculation Higher Secondary School on Thursday.

Dhanalakshmi, head of BBA department, Chennai National Science and Arts College, Avadi spoke to the students.

NSS camp in Tiruvallur district

NSS students of J.H.A. Agarsen College organised a special camp at Theeyambakkam, Thiruvalluvar district from January 20 to 29. They educated the locals on basics of computers, installed a library in the

community hall, donated an almirah and books to read, apart from taking regular lessons in the village

schools and creating awareness on health.

Donations to temple invited

Sri Raghavendra Swamy Brindavanam Committee and Brindavanam Trust, Saligramam has appealed to devotees and philanthropists to contribute towards the renovation of the main "gopuram and sannadhis" of the temple, undertaken at a cost of Rs. 6 lakh.

Poacher raided

Wildlife authorities conducted a raid following a tip off from the volunteers of the Environment Monitoring and Action Initiating (EMAI) trust on Sunday and seized 18 dead cattle egrets from a poacher at Poonamallee.

The poacher was arrested and further investigation is on.

The volunteers said the birds were trapped from Chembarambakkam Lake

and sold at the Poonamallee market on weekends
