CHENNAI: A water tanker ran over a two-wheel rider on Saturday night after he fell off his vehicle while trying to avoid hitting a deer on his path. K. Lokanathan, 23, from Velachery, was surprised on his way back home by a deer, which darted across the Velachery Main Road around 9.45 p.m. The deer was killed and Lokanathan fell off his vehicle in the impact and was over by a tanker coming behind. The Guindy Traffic police are on the lookout for the driver.
Cash missing from church
The Pazhavanthagal police have taken into custody two persons suspected of stealing nearly Rs. 35,000 from a church in Meenambakkam. According to the police, the money, collected for running the Holy Spirit Church on Govindasamy Street, was kept in the office room. Father Periyanayagam said in his complaint that he and other clergymen found the cash missing from the drawer since Saturday night.
Chain snatching
Two instances of chain snatching were reported from Korattur and Ambattur on Saturday. Sivakami, 60, lost her chain worth 2 sovereigns around 4 p.m. while she was going to pick up her grand daughter. Angela, 27, a schoolteacher, was returning home when persons on a two-wheeler snatched her six sovereign chain around 8 p.m.
Burglary in church
Burglars broke into the Roman Catholic Church at Pazhavanthangal and took away Rs. 50,000 in cash offered as donation by devotees attending mass sessions at the church. The burglary is said to have taken place around 3 a.m. and came to light a couple of hours later.
