CHENNAI: Children clad in brisk blue uniforms, scarves and caps strode past proudly and with great enthusiasm. Seniors ran about helping their group leaders.

Cubs, bulbuls, scouts, guides and rovers of various city schools participated in the District Annual Rally of Bharat Scouts and Guides (South Madras) held at Sankara Vidhyashram on Sunday.

The scouts and guides wings of seventeen schools made small presentations. Some of them rendered patriotic songs; a few formed human pyramids and a few others enacted stories. There were participants from primary level to higher secondary level.

"The aim of the guide movement is to inculcate in students several positive traits such as discipline, punctuality, cleanliness, honestly and service to society. This foundation being laid at a young age will make you great citizens," said V.G. Bhooma, Deputy Chief Personnel Officer, ICF and State Headquarters Commissioner (Guides) of Southern Railway. "India needs more people like you," she added.

"In the corporate world, we look for people who can work well in a team. Scouts and guides learn team skills and organisational skills," said T. Jaganathan, Managing Director, Futurecalls Tech Private Limited.

T.K. Mohan, district secretary, presented the district activity report. Ms. Bhooma distributed prizes to winners of various activities held during the year.
