CHENNAI : In remembrance of the 94 boys and girls who died in a fire in a school at Kumbakonam in July 2004, the State Government has decided to construct a memorial. Estimated to cost Rs. 60 lakh, the memorial will be built at a site belonging to the Kumbakonam municipality. It will come up soon, according to a press release issued by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Sunday. She said a solatium of Rs. 1 lakh each was given to the families of the deceased. Those who suffered serious burns were given Rs. 25,000 each and for the children with simple burns, Rs.10,000 each.
