COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore Corporation has sanctioned Rs.2.52 crores for development works in Wards 6 and 7 under the Mayor's Public Grievances Redressal Programme. Announcing the allocation recently, the Mayor, T. Malaravan, said works for Rs.1.23 crores would be taken up soon in Ward 6 and for Rs. 1.29 crores in Ward 7. Drainage and road works and installation of streetlights or repairs to them in Ward 6 were already being carried out at Rs. 2.35 crores. Acting on the petition received from the public in these Wards, the Corporation took up the works, a press release from the civic body said. With an earlier allocation of Rs. 82 lakhs, similar works were on in Ward 7.
Not possible
Addressing the public, the Mayor said the Corporation would carry out development works in the 533 unapproved layouts in the city but the residents should pay at least 50 per cent of the development charges. No development was possible if the people did not pay the charges as these were needed to fund the schemes. Wards 65 and 67 were also provided Rs. 10 lakhs each. A Corporation release said works for Rs. 2.64 crores had already been sanctioned in ward 65 and for Rs. 1.43 crores in ward 67.
