Kozhikode: On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the World Malayali Council will sponsor 50 paediatric surgeries free of cost for children who suffer congenital heart diseases. The Chennai Province of the World Malayali Council (WMC) will organise the programme in association with the Madras Medical Mission Hospital. The WMC will select the 50 cases from Kerala. Cases that have fair chance of a long life after the surgery, and those belonging to the economically weaker sections will be given preference.
Beneficiaries
The beneficiaries will be selected from all the districts and religions, on an equal basis. As per estimates, there are more than 1,500 infants and children in the South who suffer from congenital heart defects. Of these 400 are from Kerala. As part of the fund mobilising programme, the WMC will organise a mega musical star nite - Hridaya Ragam-2006 - in Chennai on February 25. Singer K.J. Jesudas, P. Jayachandran and Unni Menon, besides film personalities Mohanlal and Jayaram among others will participate in the show. The WMC is a global association of Keralites spread around the globe. Its Chennai Province has been actively involved in different social projects.
