Prasad aiming higher

Chennai: Venkatesh Prasad, coach of the Indian under-19 team, said on Monday he was ready to take his coaching career to the next level. The former opening bowler arrived here from Colombo where his side lost the final of the World Cup.

"I've spent fourteen months at this level and achieved the most that can be achieved, reaching the final of the World Cup. I want to take on higher challenges — maybe coach of India `A' or the bowling coach for the national side," said Prasad.

"I feel the time is right for the Board to be proactive and look at someone to assist Greg Chappell," said the man with 292 international wickets. "We can't depend on foreign coaches all our lives, and what is being done to ensure the knowledge they have is passed on to those in our country?"

Prasad said he had also applied for the post of England's bowling coach. "I received the application and I applied. They have appointed Kevin Shine who was on the faculty when I did my coaching grades." — Sports Reporter
