Action recommended against nine engineers

  • Criminal cases may be booked against two contractors
  • Some of the engineers have already been suspended in other cases

    Raichur: Amlam Aditya Biswas, Chief Executive Officer of the Raichur Zilla Panchayat, has submitted a report to the Government on Monday recommending action against nine officials of the zilla panchayat Engineering Division here and its Lingsugur and Raichur sub-divisions for alleged embezzlement of Rs. 1.40 crores while implementing drinking water supply schemes in the two taluks since 2001.

    He asked M.H. Bheemakkanavar, Executive Engineer of the Engineering Division, to book criminal cases against the two contractors, both owners of borewell drilling companies, for their alleged involvement in the embezzlement of funds.

    The officials who have been accused in the case are O.K. Swamy, the then Executive Engineer of the Engineering Division here and now serving as Chief Engineer (Highways) of the Public Works Department, Dharwad, Amrutkumar Slanki, the then Executive Engineer of the Engineering Division who is under suspension in another case of embezzlement of funds released under the MP's Local Area Development Scheme in Deodurga and Lingsugur taluks in 2004-05; Assistant Executive Engineers of the Engineering Division V.J. Raikar, Mahadevappa, T. Nagaraj and Gurulingaiah, D.N.Pjar, Junior Engineer, Lingsugur sub-division and the Accounts Officers, Kallappa and Amaresh (who is now under suspension). Mr. Biswas has ordered a departmental inquiry against 12 junior engineers of accusing them of irregularities in handling the drinking water supply schemes taken up in the same period.
