Protest against ban on turban

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Coinciding with the visit of French President Jacques Chirac, a gathering of Sikh school children on Monday marched from Gurdwara Bangla Sahib to Parliament Street here in protest against the French Government's decision to impose a ban on Sikh boys wearing turbans to schools in France. The president of Shiromani Akali Dal Panthak, Manjeet Singh, who organised the protest, later presented a memorandum to the French Embassy.

Addressing a gathering at Parliament Street, Mr. Singh said: "We aim to challenge not just a law but the Western way of thinking."
