Star power to promote e-teaching programme

Superstar Mammootty logs on to Kerala Government's Akshaya Project as goodwill ambassador. He will take up the responsibility of spearheading the campaign of Akshaya by appearing in media advertisements, Akshaya said in a press release.

The press release quoted Mammootty as saying that the Akshaya project, through which the Government proposes to take the benefits of IT to the entire population of the State, had the potential to change the face of Kerala. Akshaya, launched in Malappuram district in 2002, completed the first phase of its e-literacy programme by giving computer training to 5.8 lakh people in the district. The project was extended to Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kollam and Pathanamthitta. With the completion of the e-literacy campaign in seven districts, 35 lakh people will be equipped to handle computers.
