GULBARGA: Former Test cricketer Javagal Srinath will inaugurate the third Pratibha youth festival for college students in Gulbarga district here on Saturday. Disclosing this to presspersons here on Tuesday, Organising Committee Chairman and Deputy Commissioner Anjum Parvez said the three-day youth festival will be held at the Poojya Doddappa Appa College of Engineering and 55 colleges, comprising 30 degree and professional colleges and 25 pre-university colleges in the district, have confirmed their participation. Another 10 to 15 entries are expected. He said the youth festival is being organised in the district for the past three years to help students gain confidence in participating in national competitions. Mr. Parvez said competitions will be held into two categories literary and cultural. While literary events will include essay, debate, extempore, group discussion, poetry, thematic apprehension test and quiz competition, the cultural events are solo singing (classical and non-classical), group singing (patriotic songs), solo dance (classical and non-classical), group dance competition (folk dance), mime competition, painting competition, rangoli drawing, fancy dress, cartoon making, amateur photos and drama (one act plays). Mr. Parvez said the Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society has agreed to provide food and accommodation for girls. The district administration has arranged accommodation for the boys. A souvenir will be brought out on the occasion, he added.
