A bridge across the Punoor puzha has been a long-standing demand of the residents of Kunnamangalam and Kuruvattor grama panchayats in Kozhikode district. The opening of the Parakkadu Bridge, connecting the State highways in the two local bodies, is yet to be built. Public Works Minister M.K. Muneer inaugurated the construction works at a function on Sunday. Kunnamangalam MLA U.C. Raman was also present. Once the bridge is thrown open to vehicular traffic, the distance that the residents of Kuruvattor, Paimbra, Balussery, Narikunni, Parambil Bazar, Kunnamangalam and Chelavoor would have to travel to reach Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, Regional Engineering College and Mukkom will be reduced by at least 10 km. The 66.36-metre bridge will have footpaths on both sides, each 1.5 metre wide. The width of the bridge will be 11.5 metre. The construction cost of the bridge is estimated to be Rs.3.20 crores.
