One certainly has to be honest to say that he/she had achieved success thanks to the inefficiency of another institution. The lecture organised by the Kannur University and the Western India Plywoods Ltd. (WIPL) to commemorate the late doyen of wood-based industries A.K. Kaderkutty was marked by that candour. V Guard Industries Managing Director Kochouseph Chittilappilly in his lecture on the art of achieving success and happiness in life admitted that he never believed in luck. But he acknowledged that he became a successful entrepreneur, with a total business turnover of Rs.180 crores, due to backwardness of the State. The entrepreneur said he would not have become successful if the Kerala State Electricity Board had supplied stable electricity. "I earned my livelihood because of the inefficiency of the Kerala State Electricity Board," he said referring to his foray into the industrial field by manufacturing electric stabilisers. He, however, added hastily that things were changing as the Kerala State Electricity Board had already started initiatives to improve the quality of its supply. And, therefore he was switching over to other areas, he said.
