BELLARY: Tourism and Textiles Minister B. Sriramulu has favoured introduction of "tangas" at Hampi. In his maiden press conference here on Tuesday after assuming office, the Minister said introduction of "tangas" will not only protect the world heritage site, but also give a new experience to visitors, especially those from abroad. The introduction of tangas will provide a livelihood to "tangawalas" too, he said. The Minister said he will take up the matter with the authorities concerned. Mr. Sriramulu said he planned to distribute books on places of historical and tourist interest in the State among schoolchildren. He will accord priority to identified and unidentified places of tourist interest and chalk out plans to develop them and ensure that the tourist potential is tapped. Apart from giving facilities at Hampi and other important tourist places in the State, he will develop the <129>historical Bellary Fort, he said.
Weavers
About the plight of weavers, Mr. Sriramulu said he will discuss their problems with officials. He said an apparel park will come up in Bellary. The Minister said that he will request reputed apparel companies to set up units there. According to him, the apparel park is expected to generate 50,000 jobs, he added.
