Dhananjaya Kumar criticises `Mukhyamantri' Chandru

Says he should not have aired his views in the media

BANGALORE: A day after `Mukhyamantri' Chandru, BJP MLC, took Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa to task for "behaving dictatorially and treating the party as a fiefdom" while selecting ministers, it was the turn of the former Union Minister V. Dhananjaya Kumar to criticise Mr. Chandru.

Mr. Kumar told presspersons here on Tuesday that Mr. Chandru violated the unwritten rule of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in going to the media and airing his views on matters that have to be settled within the party. He said Mr. Chandru had played into the hands of elements inimical to the BJP, which are using him to create trouble and make it difficult for the BJP to work and meet people's expectations.

Mr. Chandru must not use the media to create a wrong impression about the party. "I am deeply hurt that he has taken the names of Mr. Yediyurappa, State unit President Jagadish Shettar and Ramachandra Gowda and D.H. Shankaramurthy who are now a part of the Cabinet," Mr. Kumar said.

Mr. Ramachandra Gowda and Mr. Shankaramurthy may be retiring in June, but there is no doubt that both will be re-elected with a resounding majority, he said.

He wondered why Mr. Chandru should take it upon himself to plead the cause of the 15 three-time MLAs who could not be accommodated as ministers. He has been holding four party posts, which is an indication of the regard and respect he commands within the party and among leaders at the national level.

The party will soon take up the issue of initiating disciplinary action against Mr. Chandru, he added.
